Geese and Peace

........................................... © 7/10 Angela Beatty

Matthew 6:26

Behold the fowls of the air

for they sow not, neither do they reap,
nor gather into barns;
Yet your heavenly Father feedeth them.
Are ye not much better than they?

Have you ever noticed how serenely geese float along? I wonder.....

If I could wholly rely on God to provide the strength I need, could I float as peacefully through the week? It's worth a try!

Rain, rain...

Isaiah 55:10
New Living Translation
~~~~~
The rain and snow
come down from the heavens
and stay on the ground
to water the earth.
They cause the grain to grow,
producing seed for the farmer
and bread for the hungry.
~~~~~

The children and I were at a local diner recently. Surrounded by checkered tablecloths and outdated wallpaper, two elderly gentlemen greeting one another with comments on the weather seemed perfectly appropriate. Something about the soft, gentle voice of the tall thin man with red suspenders captured my attention. "I'm glad to see we're getting some rain today! The land is really thirsty. We've been needing it for a while," he said.

At first I was puzzled. The retired farmer was happy about the rain! Then it dawned on me just how far we've strayed from the true nature of things. So often rain means canceled plans and inconvenience to our self-centered society. And to be honest, I was ashamed to realize how something so simple as an opinion on the weather could reveal my values... my selfish values. Since that day, I vowed to view a rainy day in a new light.

So today, while the rain was falling, I took my umbrella and went outdoors to enjoy it. Along the way, I stopped to watch these tiger lilies sipping their soda from heaven. And it felt good to be reminded that it's not all about me.... it's not all about now. It's about what's needful... it's about tomorrow. :0)
